‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director

Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt able to express about his profound loss.

"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally put my grief into words," shared Elwes, noting that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced spending more time together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."

The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the film, commenting that he could not remember "one day without laughter".

"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes expressed.

He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."

Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator

In a different essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.

"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.

Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.

"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.

In a new development, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the local authorities.

A judicial mandate placed a embargo on the files to limit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the probe.
