'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Missing Young People Desperately Seek Information After Alpine Fire
The loved ones of teenagers lost after a tragic inferno at a establishment in a Swiss alpine town are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting information about their family members publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Verified images reveal the ceiling being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Authorities have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the fire, which killed 40 people and wounded another scores more. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts ongoing to identify the other six.
In the waiting period, relatives have been using social media to appeal for clues about their missing relatives who were at the bar that fateful night.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has said that a number of of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The national sporting body has stated that he is deceased, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him passion and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him told me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
